Frequently Asked Spa Questions

There are a lot of people out there that have never experienced a rewarding visit to an elegant spa.

Like a fine restaurant, they hear compelling stories and their first thought is "wow I wonder what that

would be like" the next thought is usually "well I wouldn't even know how to act in a place like that"

and that's as far as they get. Whether it be shyness or fear of not already knowing what is expected

or appropriate.  For first time spa guests as well as those who have been to spas in the past and had

questions but didn't ask, the following tips are aimed at making everyone feel like an experienced spa-goer!

The most important thing when getting a spa treatment is to Be Comfortable. This means that if there

is anything that you don't understand, don't like, or are curious about, don't hesitate to ask your service provider.

Even if you are already in your treatment. Our spa team is committed to providing you with the best spa experience

possible, so if there is anything we can do to make your time here perfect, let us know. Don't feel like you are

"being too picky." Most requests are very easy to accommodate,  such as changing the temperature to your

preference, adjusting the volume of the music or even changing the music itself.

Questions for Massages

1. "Do I have to get Naked?"
This is a very common question for a lot of new spa guests. For full body massages it is necessary to

remove all the clothing your are comfortable with. Which means if you want to leave your bottoms on, you can.

However, avid spa goers do prefer to be naked because clothing does hinder a therapist's ability to address certain

muscles and in some cases entire areas of the body such as lower back, gluteal muscles, hamstrings, and quads.

Once you become comfortable with getting massage, and with your therapist, you can go from there. Another main

reason is that massage therapists use oils and creams.  So if you are wearing any clothing, you're almost guaranteed

to get some oil or cream on them.

2. "What do I do if my service provider talks too much during my service?"
Our spa service providers are trained to minimize conversation in order to maximize the guests enjoyment of the service.

There are some necessary communications that need to be made to provide them with feedback on your experience.
Such as, "How is the pressure?" or "Is your temperature comfortable?"  However, if you find yourself in a situation where

the service provider is exceeding your conversation preference, a polite signal is to minimize your responses.

A good service provider keys off of the guest as far as conversation goes, so they should get the hint.

If this doesn't work you might have to be a little more direct and say something like " I really just want to zone out for a little bit"

Remember you are paying for your time here, make it how you want it!

3. "Does Deep Tissue Massage really hurt?"

Our experienced and highly trained Massage Therapists make sure that your visit is enjoyable, however some

muscular "knots" may need a little extra to get them to release. Again this is where your feedback to your therapist is essential

to make sure they don't exceed your pressure preference.  Our signature massages blend elements of both swedish and deep tissue

for a wonderful balance of therapy and enjoyment.

Questions for Facial Treatments

1. "What do I do if a product is causing me discomfort on my face?"
Facial products are designed to relieve and sooth the skin; however, sometimes your face and a product don't work together.
It is important to let your Esthetician know if you are uncomfortable so they can remove the product from your skin.
This also goes for smells. Most all skin care lines use aromas and fragrance to enhance your facial.
But if something is unpleasant to you, let them know.

Questions for body waxing

1. "How long does the hair need to be before I can get it waxed?
Rule of thumb for hair length is 1/4 of an inch. Different people's hair grow at different speed, but it's about a week's worth of growth.

General Tips for the Spa

Gratuity is not included

Standard gratuity is 15-20% of the ORIGINAL spa treatment cost. Even if  you are receiving a discounted treatment,

your therapist is still doing the same amount of work. If you are unsure of the original price of the treatment,

don't be afraid to ask. While you are not required to tip, it is common courtesy and a great way to show

your therapist that they did an exceptional job.

Know the spa's cancellation policy

Most spas have a 24-hour cancellation policy, but find out just in case. If you violate their policy, the spa is

legally permissible to charge you for a partial or full amount of the treatment. Metro the Spa has

a 24 hour cancellation policy with a 50% charge if cancellation occurs with in 24 hour or no show

at the time of the appointment.

Turn off your cell phone at the spa

As a common courtesy to other guests at the spa and for your own relaxation,

please do not speak on your cell phone and turn off any mobile devices during your visit.

Arrive at the spa early

For many, a spa visit is the ticket for a bit of R&R. Arrive at the spa earlier than the time of your appointment

so you can unwind and clear your mind before beginning your treatment.

Wear casual attire

If you're coming from the office, bring casual clothes to wear after your treatment.

You may walk in feeling stiff and stressed, but you'll leave feeling refreshed and revitalized,

so bring something comfortable to wear post-treatment.

Wear as little jewelry as possible

Most spas will not accept responsibility for items that are lost or stolen, so leave all unnecessary valuables at home.

Avoid consumption of alcohol on the day of the treatment

Alcohol consumption and spa treatments are similar in one aspect: the dehydration factor.

Avoid any alcoholic beverages if you are planning a trip to the spa.

Drink plenty of water

A spa treatment often releases toxins from the body, so be sure to drink plenty of water

before and after your treatment to keep yourself properly hydrated.
